A$AP Rocky has been teasing his long awaited album Don’t Be Dumb for years, and today fans finally got a new taste with the single “Punk Rocky.”
Earlier in the day, Rocky tried to premiere the song and video on YouTube, but the release ran into issues when the video suddenly went private. Not long after, the song officially dropped for good, with the video staying live this time around.
“Punk Rocky” shows Rocky stepping into a punk inspired sound. The track blends gritty rock energy with his usual rap style, and it even includes an interpolation of Blink 182’s “All The Small Things.” Between the melodic, guitar driven moments, Rocky jumps in with confident raps, sounding comfortable as he experiments with this new direction.
The song feels bold and different from what fans may expect, which has always been part of Rocky’s appeal. Whether this punk leaning style fully clicks with everyone remains to be seen, but it is clear that Rocky is not afraid to take risks as Don’t Be Dumb gets closer to release.
