Erykah Badu and The Alchemist are building anticipation for their upcoming collaborative album with their latest single, “Witch Doctor.”
Running nearly six and a half minutes, “Witch Doctor” gives Badu plenty of room to experiment. Over The Alchemist’s soulful, percussion-driven production, Badu explores the idea of a witch as a medium while weaving in references to fictional witches and familiar pop culture figures.
The track follows their previous single “Next To You” and continues to show why this unexpected pairing works so well. Badu’s unique vocals and creative approach fit naturally over The Alchemist’s atmospheric production.
Their currently untitled collaborative album is scheduled for August 28 and was reportedly recorded over 18 months between Dallas and Los Angeles. The project is expected to explore a wide range of sounds, including soul, blues, funk, rock, jazz, and underground hip-hop.
With “Witch Doctor,” Badu and The Alchemist are giving fans another intriguing preview of what could be one of the year’s most unique collaborations.
