The Chicago lyricist revisits his Amy Winehouse–inspired project with two reimagined tracks and a deluxe edition on the way.
Nearly one year after the release of his introspective eight-track project Samurai, Lupe Fiasco is preparing to revisit it in a major way. Ahead of the forthcoming deluxe edition, the veteran MC has released two new remixes — “Samurai (Remix)” and “Palaces (Remix)” — offering fresh takes on standout moments from the original.
Originally released in 2023, Samurai was inspired by a heartfelt voicemail left by Amy Winehouse for producer Salaam Remi, featured in the 2015 documentary Amy. In the message, Winehouse reflects on a period when she was fixated on writing “battle raps” during her studio sessions — a creative spark that resonated deeply with Lupe.
On these new remixes, Lupe breathes new life into the source material. The “Samurai (Remix)” sharpens the original’s meditative flow with a more aggressive tone, while “Palaces (Remix)” leans into lush instrumentation, allowing Lupe to glide across the beat with his signature wordplay and clarity.
The deluxe edition of Samurai is expected to expand on the original’s themes of artistic discipline, legacy, and lyrical mastery — hallmarks of Lupe’s career since his debut.
Both remixes are now available on all major streaming platforms. Samurai (Deluxe) is set to drop soon, though an official release date has yet to be announced.
