Statik Selektah is getting fans ready for his upcoming album Expensive Taste with “Champagne Wishes,” a new collaboration featuring Ab-Soul, Raekwon, and Freddie Gibbs. The producer keeps things smooth with a laid back, looping instrumental that gives each rapper room to show off their skills. Ab-Soul opens the track with his distinct flow before Raekwon and Freddie Gibbs follow with verses that bring their own flavor to the record.
While some listeners online wondered if the song would sound like a remake of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “So Appalled,” “Champagne Wishes” takes a different route with its more relaxed atmosphere. The chemistry between the three MCs makes the collaboration stand out, while Statik Selektah’s production ties everything together. With Expensive Taste arriving next month, the single offers a promising preview of what the producer has lined up for hip hop fans.
